Yang Bahagia ADMIRAL TAN SRI DATO' SETIA MOHD ANWAR BIN HJ MOHD NOR (Retired) made history in April 2005 when he became the first naval chief in the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) to ascend to its highest military office – the Chief of Defence Force, commanding a strength of nearly 100,000.

With nearly 40 years of military experience with the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and MAF, Adm (Ret) Anwar has acquired a massive portfolio of achievements and has been entrusted with many high-profile appointments aboard ships and ashore, including Fleet Operations Commander of the RMN Fleet in Lumut Naval Base in 1999 and Assistant Chief of Staff of the Personnel Services Division in MAF HQ in 2000.

He holds a Master of Science Degree in Engineering Business Management from the University of Warwick, United Kingdom as well.

Adm (Retd) Anwar has also received distinguished medals from foreign governments such as the Ordre National De La Legion D'Honneur from France and the Command of the Legion of Merit from the US.

Sonia A. Mahendran,

Sonia A. Mahendran co-founded and was CEO of Asian World Summit , a company devoted to making Asia the power base of global change.  She has also been a Business Development Director at Malaysia's leading independent private think tank the Asian Strategic Leadership Institute, and a groundbreaking Director in the Asian Pacific and Middle Eastern operations at British global summit promotion firm Marcus Evans.

In 2008, at the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI), Sonia helped organize  ex-President Bill Clinton’s first visit to Malaysia since his election as president of the United States.  Clinton delivered the Sekhar Memorial Lecture and received the BC Sekhar Medal for transformational leadership.

At the Asian Strategic Leadership Institute, Sonia also partnered with India’s most powerful business organization, the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), to facilitate a strategic, round-table dialogue between top corporate conglomerates from India and Malaysia.  As a result of these dialogues, the Asian Strategic Leadership Institute tabled a white paper on bilateral agreements to then Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on potential collaboration and investment opportunities between India and Malaysia.
